"Every contact leaves a trace. Everything and everyone we touch is changed in some way. But the changes, they're never what we anticipate."

"Are We There Yet?" picked up where "Dress Code" left off, at the scene of Cassie's murder. Dexter found some of Zach's blood under Cassie's fingernails. It appeared that his protege had taken the life another innocent, partially because his new spiritual father had been preoccupied with Hannah. Quinn suspected Zach's involvement and asked Dexter to clue him in if he found Zach's DNA at the scene.
Dexter met with Hannah, and they agreed that they needed to get her out of town as soon as possible. Well, that's what they said. Nonverbally, they agreed that they were still in love. Later, Dexter asked her to come spend one last night with him in the Keys, while he hunted down Zach and before he got her the passport and identity change that she would need to flee Miami.
Vogel met with Dexter and laid a guilt trip on him with regard to Zach. Dexter maintained that he had to kill Zach now, and that he would feel no remorse for doing so. Vogel planted a seed of doubt, stating that Dexter might feel a twinge of what might have been had he kept Zach closer.
Deb asked Dexter whether or not Hannah was gone yet. When she didn't get a satisfactory answer, she went to Elway and suggested that they try to find her and turn her in for the $250,000 in reward money that various agencies were offering for her. Deb was able to deuce from a phone call with Dexter, and from the GPS tracker that she had placed on his car, that he was with Hannah. She was not pleased.
Hannah: "So what brililant turn of phrase have you come up with to describe me?
...When you're lying in bed at night and I happen to cross your mind, what do you call me?"
Dexter: "Hannah. You're just Hannah."

En route to the Keys, Dexter told Hannah about Vogel. Later, while enjoying shrimp on the beach, they shared the little exchange transcribed above.
Dexter found Zach's motel room. It was lined with plastic, and he found a knife set, much like his own, laid out on a table. He vowed to Harry's ghost that he would kill him in the motel room.
When Zach returned to the room, he swore that he hadn't killed Cassie. He had gone to the Keys to hunt down a former classmate who had bragged to him about killing a girl years before. He killed the classmate and put the body in his trunk. Dexter agreed to help Zach dispose of the body in Zach's car. In the process, Dexter found a plausible explanation as to how Zach's blood could have ended up under Cassie's nails.
Dexter left Hannah to dispose of the plastic in the motel room. Big mistake. Hannah returned to the room to find Deb waiting for her. Hannah pleaded with Deb to spare her, for Dexter's sake, just as she had spared Deb days earlier. Deb reluctantly agreed. Elway wasn't pleased when Deb returned empty-handed. Deb told him that she was thinking of quitting and returning to the police department.

"I would give everything to feel nothing again." -Dexter
Back at Vogel's house, Dexter sat down to dinner with the family unit that he has cobbled together for himself. Hannah, his lady, Zach, his spiritual son, and Vogel, his spiritual mother. Later, they poured over photos from Cassie's crime scene and determined that someone had tried to set Zach up to take the fall for her murder. Quinn or Ryan Gosling-lookalike?
Dexter took Hannah to a hotel, where she would stay the night before skipping town the next day. She promised to keep in touch once she reached wherever she decided to go. They swapped some DNA before saying goodbye.
Dexter returned to his apartment to find Zach, sitting in his chair, dead, killed in the same way that the Brain Surgeon's victims had been. "Make Your Own Kind of Music" was playing from an iPod docked nearby.
As some more observant fans of the show than I have noted, that song was playing in one of The Brain Surgeon's videos earlier in the season. Several episodes later, we saw Vogel playing the song in her home. It would seem that the writing team, which I've often been critical of for not doing clever or subtle very well, dropped us some subtle, clever hints that I was too dense to notice.
Dexter went to Hannah before she got on the plane the next morning. He asked her to stay with him. This is sure to further complicate his life, as Elway remains intent on tracking down Hannah and collecting the reward money.
